Every business story starts off as an idea and people always want to know how I came up with mine. The truth is that I had a concept for it long before I had a plan. I knew that I didn't want to start just another ordinary juice bar, there were already so many cold press bars in the hood. I wanted my store to be original, and innovative and something that would differ-entiate us from the others. After taking inventory of what was available to consumers in those bars and stores I realized what was missing. My idea was that we would serve all kinds of fresh nut milks, preservative free, all natural and delicious and so, Milk Gone Nuts was born. My husband Mario owns the Texaco gas station on Alton Road; he developed and built the gas station over 20 years ago. I realized there was more than enough space inside the store for me to test my product out and see how it would be received. Being a gas station and a car wash brings in a great deal of foot traffic through the door and what better way to get noticed than to offer someone a healthy treat while they are waiting for their car to be detailed. Milk Gone Nuts opened its doors on September 17th, 2013 and at that time I really had no idea what I was in for. I knew there was an audience for what I was selling but what I didn't know was that there was such a high demand for eating healthy and preservative free. The business took off like a rocket ship. The building blocks to this idea literally started with an almond , which in turn, created the almighty almond milk. The menu and recipes I started to create weren't just any recipes, these were drinks that had never been offered before, anywhere! We created several variations of nut milk drinks, combined with organic products and fresh ingredients, we cater to the customers needs. So, what brought me to this place in life? Yes I have had some professional culinary educa-tion but that was a long time ago for me and I barely remember any of it. My love for food and eating delicious is what keeps me creative. I love to eat healthy, I always have but more importantly is that it has to taste good! Today our menu includes but is not limited to Organic Salads, artisanal milk pops, fresh juices, homemade soups and so on. When people used to walk in they would usually display looks of uncertainty and confusion as to what was actually going on. This was not your usual grab a bag of chips and a soda kind of stop. I can honestly say that never in the history of gas stations has something like this existed before. But here we are, and now when people walk into the gas station, they are coming in for a reason and that reason is Milk Gone Nuts. I should also mention that without my Husband Mario, none of this would have ever been possible Since day one he has not only supported my ideas and dreams but embraced them with passion and confidence. Together we have created what Milk Gone Nuts is today. Thank you for your encouragement, time investment and never doubting my vision.
